Her Master's Choice at Amazon!

Her Master's Choice is finally available on Amazon.

My first MF-BDSM has hit the shelves and I'm nervous as hell!  I'm wondering whether this new genre will welcome me, or if it'll go over like a lead zeppelin.  I had a great time writing this book and I hope there will be many more in this series.

When Shannon Bloomfield hears a rumor that an influential, anonymous food critic is visiting her restaurant, she has no idea it’s the exotic bad-boy Tate Gooding, who holds her fate in his culinary hands. Tate, burned out on the club circuit life and traveling around the U.S. for his guidebook company, wants a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the three-star chef.

Tate instructs Shannon in a thrilling new realm of private—and public—play, pushing her limits with every new scene.  Shannon discovers that her inner “Force-Me Queen” is an expert tease, skilled at keeping Tate on the edge.

But a creepy stalker has photos and threatens to expose Tate’s cover and their back alley scenes. Tracking down the culprit brings the couple closer than ever in their power plays, and Shannon learns that breaking out of her comfort zone is an arousing adventure when it’s Her Master’s Choice.

Chapter One

“Did he describe it as an ‘orgasmic explosion’?”

Shannon Bloomfield giggled. She dug her forearms into the comfortable position on her desk where she often hunkered down and Skyped with her BFF, Natasha Woolf. The two women got a sheer kick out of ruthlessly tearing apart food critic Bletchley Park. His purple prose and use of absurd metaphors made him the laughingstock of the foodie world—but maybe that was why he was so popular. People enjoyed “hate reading” his blog just so they could revel in savagely picking it apart later.

Natasha tossed her hair over her shoulder. “No, this time he went for ‘a regular tornado of flavors.’”

“Hoo, boy,” said Shannon. “He’s getting into the weather metaphors now. ‘A seismic cataclysm of cilantro and cumin.’”

Natasha laughed until her eyes were wet then took another sip of her hibiscus tea. She liked to pour it into a margarita glass so she could pretend they were enjoying cocktails, but they usually had too much work to indulge in that. Natasha had to leave her apartment soon to head to her new restaurant in the suburbs of Tucson. The two women used to work together here in the hills of Berkeley—thus the name of Shannon’s restaurant, The Wolf and The Fox.

The Good Switch is up for preorder!

The Good Switch is up at Siren for preorder now!  I'm happy to introduce you to chef Natasha Woolf who bears an uncanny resemblance to Angie Harmon.

She is having all sorts of troubles with her unruly delinquent teen Corey, but any second now the dashing Ari Braverman will step up to take control of the chaos of poor Natasha's life.  Thank God for Ari.  Now Natasha can concentrate on showing him what a GOOD SWITCH she can be and not have to think about her son's latest car crash for a few minutes.

Three For All--First Chapter

THREE FOR ALL

Hell’s Delight 3

Chapter One

Hell’s Delight, California

“This isn’t your average Delight Hardware crowd.”

Boy, did Lacey make an understatement. Of course, Hannah O’Loughlin had expected a colorful bunch of people at the Hardscrabble Ranch party. It was Halloween. But the extravagance presented here went beyond a few devil, Frankenstein, or Charlie Sheen masks.

A few men even were clad in My Little Pony costumes, complete with plumed tails swishing from their rumps. Muscular gladiators wearing leopard skin capes clanked by in chains. A life-sized Barbie had the dolls glued to every conceivable part of her body. A six-headed hydra spewed sequins from three of its mouths. One fellow was half man, half woman, depending from where you viewed him. The crew-cut, leather-clad lesbian bikers seemed almost homespun next to the razzle-dazzle that paraded in this barn.

“I feel so simple in my costume,” Hannah told Lacey. “And when I picked it out at the store it felt so daring.” We’re not in Montana anymore.

Lacey clutched Hannah’s arm. She seemed to genuinely fear for Hannah’s comfort level now. “Oh, I hope you don’t feel out of place. Believe me, these folks are just cutting loose. They’re normally just everyday people. See that gal dressed like the Statue of Liberty? She’s really Miss Teen Buckeye County. And that guy wearing nothing but a giant book—see, he’s got binoculars for eyes?—well, he’s just the Hell’s Delight bookstore owner.”

Awesomesauce Cover Reveal

I am SO excited to reveal the cover for The Good Switch, due out December 20.

I modeled the heroine Natasha after Angie Harmon--you can totally tell!  It's amazing how close Les gets to the original.

Natasha Woolf’s delinquent teen son is giving her nothing but headaches.  Enter Ari Braverman, politician turned powerful food critic, and she welcomes the help.   Ari is a charismatic, cultured silver fox in an expensive business suit, and Natasha wants to restore order to the chaos that has become of her life.  Ari’s brand of domination equals security and safety for her.
After a nasty breakup in Washington, DC, Ari hesitates to accept a new submissive.  But he discovers the spitfire restaurant owner has a feisty side that refuses to offer total surrender, and he’s surprised that her rebel play turns him on.
When his old girlfriend Kelly pops up begging to reconcile, Ari sends the ex-sub packing.  Kelly worms her way into the graces of politicos supporting his Congressional bid, with deadly intentions for the sub who has taken her place.  Natasha must fight tooth and nail to prove she is…THE GOOD SWITCH.

Her Master's Choice on Preorder at Siren!

Her Master's Choice has gone on preorder at Siren!  This is my very first MF-BDSM in years.  It was exhilarating writing about "only" two people for the first time.  I was able to get a lot more in depth with just the two of them, and that was fun, delving into their deep-seated emotions.

I adore writing about people who find it difficult to love again, or to admit love.  I adore the dark, edgy heroes who have been living the dissipated life, and clean up their act out of love for the heroine.  She always elevates him above his darkness and self-pity.

[Siren Everlasting Classic: Erotic Consensual BDSM Romance, public exhibition, spanking, paddling, flogging, forced-seduction role play, sex toys, HEA]

When Shannon Bloomfield hears a rumor that an influential, anonymous food critic is visiting her restaurant, she has no idea it’s the exotic, erotic bad boy Tate Gooding who holds her fate in his culinary hands.  Tate, burned out on the club circuit life and traveling around the States for his guidebook company, wants a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the three-star chef.

Tate instructs Shannon in a thrilling new realm of private—and public—play, pushing her limits with every new scene.  Shannon discovers that her inner “Force-Me Queen” is an expert tease, skilled at keeping Tate on the edge.

Jan Bowles has generously made me the MOST amazing, artistic, and creative banner in the history of the entire world:

Sirenistas in Vegas

So last weekend I met up with some fellow Siren writers in Las Vegas.  We stayed at the South Point which is south of the airport, sort of a self-contained little world with a horse arena and some romance writers who wished the rodeo was THIS WEEK.

From L to R, here are Siobhan Muir, Susan Hayes, Laurie Roma, Erika Reed, Marla Monroe, Yours Truly, and Reggie Alexander!  Oh, and looks like Marla's got Bondage Bunny.

I tried writing in my room and got about 500 words before I realized it'd be much more fun to read Corinne Davies' latest Sanctuary book down by the pool, so that didn't get too far.  I already miss everyone!  We vowed to make it an annual deal, except next time...WHEN THE INDIAN RODEO IS THERE!

Here's a real good shot of Laurie Roma and Susan Hayes.  Till next year!

I've joined up with Sable Hunter in her Halloween Blog Hop.  Christina Ratliff from Nice Ladies, Naughty Books has snailed me a boatload of Halloween-themed swag including horror movies, coffee cups, and scary tales that I'll give away along with a copy of my latest chart-busting MMF mĂ©nage, Three For All.

Here is a pic of some of the loot--"Young Frankenstein," "Dracula," socks, candy corn, margarita flavorings...the bottomless box just goes on and on.

Leave a comment below for a chance to win this haul!

Here in Chapter One of Three For All, innocent widow Hannah O'Loughlin attends a Halloween party naively dressed as a genie.

Six-Pack Stud-a-Thon Blog Hop & Giveaway

I've joined Lea Barrymire's Six-Pack Stud-a-Thon blog hop, her first annual droolfest.   To win a free copy of my latest The Subject Was Rose, leave a comment below.  To enter for the grand prize, use the Rafflecopter form below.

My contribution to the Stud-a-thon is the absolutely fab model, Stephen Ritts:

I utilized him as the sinspiration for my hero, Drake Stinson, in my recent release, The Subject Was Rose.  As you can see, he slipped right into the role of the overbearing, arrogant, and self-centered Dom whose world was about to be rocked by the innocent and submissive Rose Britton.

I'll be giving away a free ebook of The Subject Was Rose.  You can enter the contest here:

 Chapter One

Last Chance, California

“Rose. Gentleman at Table Fourteen has a complaint.”

The waiter stood innocently in the kitchen holding an empty tray. Guests were always “gentlemen,” even if they were complaining that the beef stew en casserole had lettuce in it—it was supposed to—or their Perfect Manhattan wasn’t so perfect.

“Goddammit.” Rose swore and swiped her too-long bangs from her eye. “Do you know what he’s bitching about?” She had glimpsed Table Fourteen for just the briefest moment while peeking out to survey her empire—the dining room at the Cavern on the Green, the elegant mid-century supper club attached to the Searchlight Motel. All she’d seen was a distinguished older, well, gentleman. His short, almost crew-cut silver hair gave him the look of a banker or lawyer in his Rodeo Drive suit. Rose had been executive chef at The Stick and Fiddle in Los Angeles, earning them their third star from Michelin. And that was after graduating with honors from the Culinary Institute at Hyde Park, New York. She’d never had a single tiny complaint until coming to this regentrified burg near Palm Springs. People must not be very hip to the ever-changing cuisine scene out here.

The waiter rolled his eyes. “Yeah. The pepper pot soup.”

The Subject Was Rose is up for preorder at Siren

My newest MMF, The Subject Was Rose, is up for preorder at Siren.  This is the followup to The Sublime Miss Paige and tells the story of lovely 3-star chef Rose Britton who meets her future lord and master, Drake Stinson, when he complains about her pepper pot soup.  Drake is struggling to break free of his hedonistic, self-centered past, and he can't handle it when he spies on Rose and the exotically beautiful Jesse Factor in a clinch in his kitchen.

When three-star chef Rose Britton agrees to have her portrait painted by top designer Jesse Factor, she has no clue their sexy scenes would be so rudely interrupted by powerful billionaire cattle rancher Drake Stinson, who busts in like a Dominant house on fire.  After having sworn off men, suddenly Rose has two of them and quite a mess on her hands.
Drake has led a shallow, jet-setting lifestyle for decades.  Just as he decides to open up and allow a deeper relationship with Rose to form, he's confused by his heteroflexible passion for Jesse too.  Drake initiates the couple into the intricacies of his sexual power structure, and they all want much more than a trivial hookup.
But Drake is haunted by a corrupt deal his father made fifteen years ago.  Now greasy Fed, Burt Macklin, is back demanding a multi-million dollar payoff for a large chunk of Drake’s ranch.

Ring of Fire!

Today I'm over at Laurie Roma's place discussing pet peeves when reading romances.  It's stimulating to see all the different responses, but I particularly liked Lori King and Tymber Dalton's responses.

Mine went:  KAREN MERCURY: What gets my goat is when a writer has obviously borrowed a very hackneyed phrase from another writer.  I’ve seen it steamroll that way.  I’ll read the stale phrase—for example, how her gown “pooled at her feet” when a hero took it off.  A month later, you’ll read someone else using the exact same phrase.  It steamrolls from there, and pretty soon every single book has a gown pooling on the floor. Same thing with a man “claiming” a woman’s mouth with his.  I first read that in gothic romances in the 80s.  Pretty soon men were claiming more than mouths. They were staking claims on female body parts all over the place!  If you’re going to borrow a hackneyed phrase, make one up yourself.  My favorite is “slithering.”  I like how satin “slithers” between a hero’s fingers.  You can borrow that.

Chapter One

“Thank God you’re here.”

Katrina Abramson grabbed her coworker by the arm and jerked her behind the voter registration booth. “Here are the forms, pens, Gatorade, and bumper stickers saying ‘Vote for Skip Mesquite.’”

“I thought we weren’t supposed to endorse any one candidate,” her coworker said dully.

“You’re right—we’re not.” Katrina raced madly from the booth as though fleeing an avalanche. It was the Fourth of July. She shouldn’t be standing behind a boring booth in a ninety-degree oven trying to push the least popular agenda at the Frontier Days Fiesta. She had only agreed to it because she had just broken up with her boyfriend, Marco, and thought it might help occupy her on a holiday where traditionally she was eating corn dogs, watching fireworks, and participating in a wet T-shirt contest—all for charity, of course. She usually won the wet T-shirt contest, too.

Katrina dashed past booths selling hemp hammocks, pyramids to communicate with one’s dead cat, bonsai, and tie-dyed T-shirts. Her goal was the beer truck. Katrina didn’t even normally drink beer. But today, what with the heat, the boredom of the voting booth, and having caught sight of Marco strolling with his arm draped over a strange girl’s shoulder, Katrina suddenly wanted one. Badly.

Ah. That cup of beer sure hit the spot. Immediately Katrina got back into line to purchase another cup. She danced back and forth on her feet, antsy. She wanted to leap over the counter, tear the smiling, affable workers away, and pour a pitcher of beer for herself. What the fuck is Marco thinking? Showing up in public so soon after we split? Everyone in town knows we were a couple for five years. You could at least show me the respect of not parading your bimbo all over the fair.

Cover Reveal: The Subject Was Rose

I am so proud to reveal my latest cover by the talented Les Byerley, The Subject Was Rose.

When you see the sinspirational photos I emailed Les you will see that he was spot on with at least one of the models.

For the billionaire cattle rancher Dom, Drake Stinson, I was sinspired by this gorgeous model, Stephen Ritts:

I've never used a model before as sinspiration.  I've always used actors because I like to see them walk, talk, move around.  I think Les's model is right on target.

The heroine was based on Georgia King, a Scottish actress who briefly appeared this year in The New Normal.  I actually liked that show before it was cancelled.  I must have the worst taste in shows because every one I like gets cancelled.  Every one I'm "meh" about gets renewed.  I just noticed the guy next to Georgia looks sort of Like Jeffrey Dahmer, serial killer.  I think it's her fiancĂ©.

Then the beta hero, the interior designer Jesse Factor.  I gave him blue-green eyes and made him 1/4th black, 1/4th Cherokee, and 1/2 Dutch.  I think that pretty well describes Jesse Williams, Dr. Avery from Grey's Anatomy:

I think Dr. Avery is the only decent "noob" on that show.  I can live without any of the others who have joined in the past five or so years.

So there you have my big cover reveal for The Subject Was Rose.  Here's a little blurbage until I get a buylink on Siren's site:

When three-star chef Rose Britton agrees to have her portrait painted by top designer Jesse Factor, she has no clue their sexy scenes would be so rudely interrupted by powerful billionaire cattle rancher Drake Stinson, who busts in like a Dominant house on fire.  After having sworn off men, suddenly Rose has two of them and quite a mess on her hands.

"Would You Rather?" over at Hennessee Andrews

Today I'm playing along with a boatload of other authors the "Would You Rather?" game over at Hennessee Andrews blog.  My question was: Karen Mercury, would you rather be blissfully ignorant or aware of everything at the possible expense of your happiness?

·
·         Well, you said possible expense of my happiness, so that leaves me an out, right?  Leaving happiness aside for a second—because I usually do—I think I’d rather be aware of everything.  I just recently started taping Jeopardy and watching it alone.  Yes, I know, how pathetic.  But I think it keeps my mind sharp.  I swear I don’t even pause the questions, and the other day I only got two—TWO!—questions wrong.  I’m all screaming at the screen, “The HMS Beagle!” and “Tycho Brahe!”

Don’t you totally hate it when the contestants bang away at that buzzer with their thumb, acting all consternated because it appears to be broken?  I prefer the contestants who hide the buzzer behind the podium and act all cool and collected.  Like they’re not even stressing or even banging away at the buzzer.  Their mind is so brilliant it just makes a magical “ding” sound and they casually answer, “What is Chief Justice Earl Warren?”

Alex Trebek must be the coolest cucumber in all of history.  How can he possibly pretend to be so damned enthusiastic and excited day after day, year after year?  He must be totally aware of everything.  I wonder if he wakes up at 2:15 AM yelling, “What are Vietnamese water puppets?”

Three of a Perfect Pair is released at Siren

Three of a Perfect Pair is now zooming up the charts at Siren.  It's the followup to the popular Three Hearts Beat as One that was released "way back" in February.  I'm currently writing Book #3, Three for All, which will be my last submission before shoulder surgery.  I had a bizarre archery accident back in December and they need to fix my rotator cuff.  I'll be in a sling for six weeks.  I heard that speaking software doesn't work so well for erotic romance writers.  We have so much slang and language that's specific to us that we wind up wasting more time tweaking the software.  So I'm going to try and type and mouse with only my left hand.  Wish me luck.

In the meantime, since I won't bore you with the cover again, here's an update on Myshkin Gitchy Goomy.  She's over 50 pounds now.  She's getting tall and leggy and looks like a little fuzzy brown colt with her hind legs longer than her front.

With my niece, Mari

Doesn't she complement the furniture?

This is her opinion of Ted Nugent

Myshkin and her BFF, the Chihuahua from down the street

Until then, happy reading!

Three of a Perfect Pair up for Preorder

Hey!  Three of a Perfect Pair, the followup to the popular Three Hearts Beat as One, is on preorder at Siren!  It's a standalone so you don't need to read #1 to enjoy the whacky antics in Hell's Delight, California, where you never know who you might run into next at Positive Vibrations, the sex toy shop.  The women of the Cultured Pearl biker society are always ogling the strap-on display (and our curvaceous heroines), the bookshop owner is always breathing on the latest copy of the voyeur's magazine, Look Now!, and everyone is enjoying Mickey Tart, the latest flavor at Pearson's yogurt shop, even though Ben Pearson has gone up the river for one to two years.

They’re at it again in the hamlet of Hell’s Delight. Katrina Abramson, recovering from a nasty breakup, is hosed by firefighter Alex Coldiron during the annual Fourth of July water fight between rival fire companies. She is sprayed right into cattleman Shane Jonas, on the run from his past. He has returned to confront his future.

Town reporter Alex knows Shane wants to mend fences with brother Devin and plans to write a heartwarming article. Instead, he’s thrust into a passionate triangle with the amorous couple, and Alex must face the truth about his sexuality. Katrina is swept into a thrilling power exchange with the two men where no one is ever sure who has the upper hand.

An exotic, shady character from Shane’s former life is lurking in the shadows, spying on their play sessions, and Shane's dangerous past is about to come full circle.
