New Contract for my Historicals!

I am proud to announce I've just signed a new contract for my first three historicals brought out by Medallion Press in the 00s: The HinterlandsThe Four Quarters of the World, and Strangely Wonderful.  All three African-set historicals tell tales of derring-do in clashes between adventurers, colonials, and tribesmen.  Crossroad Press has purchased all three as a set called The Dark Continent, and they will be available in e-book form in August.

So to celebrate I had three new covers made:

Yes, there is a sword theme!  Look for them in about a month.  NOW!

Book Cover Reveal Alert!

I'm thrilled to reveal my new book cover for THE HINTERLANDS, a reissue of my first published book in 2004.  Here you can see the old vs the brand spanking new.

Old version circa 2004

Brand spanking new version, 2014
I love how the new version looks like a Tarzan poster, some pulp fiction adventure thing, which pretty much describes the book.  Here's the blurb.  I'll be reissuing it within a couple of weeks.

From a land you’ve never heard of
Comes a story you’ll never forget

1896.  In the vast network of the Niger Delta waterways, where palm oil and blood flow from the hinterlands, the ancient Kingdom of Benin is under siege.  Legendary trader and leopard hunter Brendan Donivan battles to protect his adopted homeland’s sacred civilization from the colonial expansion of the British while balancing his commerce with the whiteman’s world.  Brendan’s reality is fractured by the arrival of…

…New York anthropologist Elle Bowie, drawn to the Guinea Coast by a dream.  Amazed to discover the domain holds vast happiness and delights, she cannot reveal her true ambition.  For against everything her mind and heart has trained her for, she has it bad for the “Coast Gentleman.”

Brendan cannot love a woman who is in cahoots with the British. Elle cannot love any man.

Central in the scheming of the Oil Rivers citizens is the traitorous gnome Mateus, descended from Portuguese soldiers.  the happy-go-lucky Texan, Rip, who masquerades as Elle’s husband.  and the majestic and brutal General Ologboshere, in command of thousands of warriors.

As Brendan and Elle become mixed up in the political intrigues of the steamy jungle, the British forces bear down relentlessly upon them.  They face the extinction of a way of life, trading hulks anchored in the rivers, advanced bronze artwork, colossal war canoes, and the supremacy of the Oba, King of Benin, second in command to the gods.

The Kingdom of Benin, the land of ritualistic human sacrifice and juju  religion.  The lives and loves of many hang in the balance in…THE HINTERLANDS

The Importance of Being Serviced Releasing Today!

Releasing September 28, 2012
#6 in the How the West Was Done series

When Jessamine’s treasure stagecoach is held up, the outlaw Owen Crow has a heart.  Owen hides with her in the station, terrified by his fellow highwayman Ryan—Owen swears he is a traveler from another place and time, wearing strange clothing and shooting an odd smokeless pistol.

Messenger for the stage line, callous adventurer Gideon Storms escorts the widow and outlaw prisoner back to Laramie.  Because Gideon can read Jessamine’s sultry thoughts, he knows their destiny is entwined.  Owen had idolized Gideon since the war, following tales of Gideon’s bold travels and exploits.  Flattered by the attention, Gideon opens his heart to the reformed gunman who is being pursued after wanted posters of him as the “Diaper Bandit” are plastered all over town.

Ryan reappears with some shattering news that turns the trio’s bliss upside down.  They must help the strange traveler or risk the ruin of their happiness.

The Wild Bunch
Releases September 28, 2012
#5 in the How the West Was Done series

Fidelia is hell-bent on a mission to find whoever murdered her brother and turned him into a guitar-playing ghost.  She joins forces with Chess Hudson, who has wasted his youth on a wild European spree.  But before he straightens up to manage the cattle ranch, Chess has one last blowout with stunning ranch hand, Spenser.
The singing spirit leads the trio on a whirlwind journey following the trail of Spanish fly, giant spurs, and stuffed tigers. Chess is a tough and callous libertine who has known sensuality but has never known love, and Fidelia and Spenser have got him acting in ridiculous, passionate ways.
Meanwhile, a deranged maniac is running about, stealing Chess’s Stetson and staging a production of Hamlet.  The trio must put an end to this madness before they become victims of The Mirror Man.  But to catch him they must work closely with him…too close for comfort.
